A Tried-and-True Go-to

We Munchies love diving into fancy culinary hot spots and uncovering unique local gems, but let’s be honest: some days, you just can’t survive without the hassle-free, tried-and-true classics.

When you’ve spent two freezing hours sitting in the wind, watching a youth sports game north of Midcoast Maine, upscale tasting menus aren't on the radar—pure comfort food is. Every single time sports bring us up this way, we know exactly where we’re stopping on the drive back home: Bucksport House of Pizza.

Finding truly fantastic, consistent pizza in Maine can be a bit of a treasure hunt, but Bucksport House of Pizza nails it every single time. It’s the ultimate quick, delicious, and family-friendly pitstop with a super friendly staff that instantly makes you feel right at home.

The Atmosphere & Vibe

There is truly something here for the whole gang. If the weather is nice, you can sit on the back deck with an incredible, sweeping view overlooking the Penobscot River, Fort Knox, and the iconic Penobscot Narrows Bridge.

If you're coming in from a cold, rainy game, head straight inside. Our personal favorite spot is pulling up to the high top right next to the bar. They’ve got a full bar equipped with Keno/Lottery machines (Juanito's style action), making it the perfect spot for parents to thaw out, grab a cold drink, and unwind while the kids settle in.

The Go-To Orders & Menu Highlights

Buffalo Chicken Calzone: An absolute favorite in our rotation. Packed with juicy chicken, gooey cheese, and just the right hit of tangy buffalo heat inside a warm, golden crust.

The Blue Cheese: We have to give a special shoutout here—it isn't some watery, mass-produced packet. It is thick, rich, and full of chunky curds with that perfect sharp bite. Ask for extra cups for dipping your calzone crust or wings!

The Pizzas & Specials: Their crust-to-sauce ratio is spot-on, and the cheese is melted to perfection. While classics like their House Special or Chicken Broccoli Alfredo are always on point, they also keep the menu fun and interesting by regularly running creative specials with unique twists.

For the Kids: My son has a non-negotiable ritual here—he orders a big glass of chocolate milk every single time we walk through the door.

Beyond the Crust: If you aren't in the mood for pizza, their menu is massive. The Steak Bomb Sub, Chicken Caesar Wraps, and crispy Boneless Buffalo Wings never fail.

Location & Historical Context

Just across the Penobscot River sits Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory—one of Maine’s most iconic historic landmarks. Fort Knox, constructed between 1844 and 1869 out of massive granite blocks, was built to protect the Penobscot River valley against potential British naval attacks (though it never saw combat).

Positioned right on Main Street in downtown Bucksport, Bucksport House of Pizza sits right along the riverbanks, making it the perfect post-game stop or scenic break along Route 1.

Thank for always being there for us, Bucksport House of Pizza!!!
