Fun, Funny, and Full of Maine Flair

If we’re going to trek all the way down to Boothbay for a field hockey game, we’re sure as hell going to take advantage of the local food scene, and we found out- Footbridge Brewery is an absolute must-stop.

The History & Vibe

Situated right off Granary Way near Boothbay Harbor's historic footbridge, Footbridge Brewery was founded by co-owners Dan Pangburn and Nick Ullo. They built the business around a passion for hand-crafted, small-batch brewing and a deep commitment to sourcing over 95% of their ingredients locally from Maine farmers. Housed in a historic waterfront-style building, the space captures that quintessential, rugged coastal Maine atmosphere—inviting, unpretentious, and built for gathering with good friends over great food, drinks, and local live music.

Behind the bar, you'll meet a down-to-earth, funny, no-nonsense bartender who just screams authentic Maine charm. And any place where dogs are welcome (and encouraged!) on the patio is the place for us!

The Unrivaled Star: Pig Shots

The highlight of the entire meal was an order of Pig Shots. We weren't quite sure what to expect going in, but these were totally amazing, and we will definitely be going back to get more. They take thick beef sausage rounds and wrap them in crisp bacon to form a little "shot glass," which is then packed with a sweet and savory cream cheese and pineapple filling. The combination of smoky, salty bacon, rich cream cheese, and bright, sweet pineapple is pure genius.

Food Favorites & Standouts

Looking around, we saw many people with the pizza, but the rest of the menu (which was totally funny to read) is packed with clever, irresistible BBQ and pub bites that make choosing tough:

Texas Twinkies: Smoked jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon with a sweet-heat BBQ glaze.

Sticky Burnt Ends: Applewood-caramelized cubed brisket point tossed in house maple bourbon BBQ sauce.

Dan’s Ugly Pretzels: The menu reads: “Dan got right wicked peeved at the quality of pretzels, so damn it he is making them himself. They ain't pretty but they sure taste good served with old-world, sweet and spicy mustard or add Footbridge Brewery beer cheese.” Hand-rolled, scratch-made pretzels served hot with old-world sweet-and-spicy mustard or warm beer cheese.

The Godleski Nachos: A massive tray loaded with fresh peppers, brined jalapeños, BBQ pit beans, smoked pulled pork, chopped brisket, melted cheese, and a maple bourbon BBQ drizzle.

On Tap & Behind the Bar

Their tap list rotates regularly with everything brewed in-house, ranging from the easy-drinking Fisherman’s Thumb (a crisp New England IPA) to the bold, pepper-infused Ovens Mouth Pale Ale for a kick. For non-beer drinkers, you don't have to settle for basic options—they carry a full selection of liquor and spirits behind the bar, along with hard seltzers and ciders, so everyone in the crew is covered.

There are so many interesting things on this menu, so Footbridge is officially locked on our radar for every future visit down to Boothbay.
