A happy hub on the Penobscot River
Looking for a spot that combines a killer view with a vibe so warm it can melt a Maine winter? Look no further than High Tide Restaurant and Bar in Brewer!
Perched right at 5 South Main Street, this gem sits in a beautifully repurposed brick building that carries the soul of Brewer’s industrial past. Once part of the historic waterfront infrastructure, the space has been transformed into a lively hub that honors its history while serving up some of the freshest seafood in the area.
The Vibes & The Crew
We stopped by on a frigid Maine morning, and while the huge deck with its breathtaking, panoramic views of the Penobscot River looked like the ultimate summer dream, we were more than happy to snuggle up at the bar.
The highlight of our visit? The two bartenders. They were absolutely bubbly, genuinely happy, and incredibly attentive. You can see they work together like a well-oiled machine, and it’s no wonder the locals keep coming back—the service is as consistent as it is friendly. They made us feel like regulars within five minutes!
A Tale of Two High Tides
It’s worth noting that if you’ve been to the Rockland location, you’re in for a different experience here. While owned by the same group (High Tide Restaurant, LLC), the Brewer location is under different management and culinary leadership, and you can really feel that distinction. There’s a specific warmth and a high-energy "community" vibe in Brewer that sets it apart, from the management style to the execution of the food.
On the Menu
Their menu is a treasure trove of "great finds" that had us wanting to try one of everything. They aren't kidding when they boast about having the freshest seafood around, but their land-based options are just as stellar.
Cranberry Chicken Salad Wrap: Exactly what I was hoping for—bright, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Craisins, almonds, red onions, celery, dill, and arcadian greens with a choice of wrap or sandwich.
The AM Wrap: My honey is a big breakfast guy, and this fresh egg wrap loaded with veggies like tomato and spinach hit the spot. Crispy home fries on the side for him, of course.
The Drinks: They have some seriously interesting new twists on cocktails. If you’re a fan of creative mixology, you’ll be in heaven.
Specials & Entertainment
One of the best parts? The prices didn't scare us away, which is a rare feat these days!
Happy Hour: They run fantastic specials Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM and again from 8:00 PM to close.
Live Music: Local musicians frequently set the scene, adding that perfect "stay-a-while" atmosphere.
The Deets:
Location: 5 South Main Street, Brewer, ME
Hours: Daily from 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM (with bar hours often extending later)
We will 100% be back this summer to soak up the sun and enjoy some live music on that massive deck. If you're in the Bangor/Brewer area, do yourself a favor and drop in!
