If you’re looking for a slice of Mexico in the heart of the Pine Tree State, look no further than Las Palapas in Bangor. This isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a high-energy, flavor-packed experience that has become a local legend since it first opened its doors.
A Family Legacy in Every Bite
The story of Las Palapas is a true American dream. Owner Eriberto “Eric” Guzman opened the first location near the Bangor Mall in June 2014, taking over the old Ninety Nine Restaurant building. Eric, who grew up between California and Mexico, brought his family and years of industry expertise to Maine to create something authentic.
Today, it is a true family-owned and operated "well-oiled machine." You’ll often see the family involved in the daily hustle, ensuring every guest feels like they’ve just walked into a celebration. The success of the Bangor spot even led to a second location in Brewer and their newest venture, Roca Azul!
Why We Love It
The "Insta-Appetizer": As soon as you sit down, you’re greeted with free chips and homemade salsa. We’re talking chips that are still warm and freshly baked, paired with a salsa so fresh you’ll want to drink it.
Speed Demons: Despite the massive crowds, the service is super fast. It’s the perfect spot for a quick lunch or a dinner where you don't want to wait an hour for your tacos.
Portions for Days: "Huge" is an understatement. You’ll likely leave with a heavy takeout box (or two).

The menu is absolutely huge, covering everything from street tacos to sizzling fajitas. But if you want a pro tip, go for the Popeye Burrito.
The Popeye Burrito: It’s a flavor powerhouse stuffed with grilled chicken, onions, and fresh spinach. It’s covered in their signature silky cheese dip and served with two sauces that pack just the right amount of "heat" while staying amazingly fresh. It comes with all the fixings, plus rice and beans on the side.
