What truly sets the Homeport apart is the palpable soul of the place. You can tell when a space is merely "managed" versus when it is deeply loved. Owners Arnaud and Allison Lessard, along with Chef Kip Dixon, have breathed incredible life into this historic property.
If you want the full experience, you have to sit at the bar with Arnaud. His passion for the building’s history and his genuine joy in his craft are infectious. He isn't just pouring drinks; he’s the steward of the tavern’s energy.
Whether he’s detailing the architectural nuances of the mansion or sharing stories of its seafaring past, his pride in his job makes every guest feel like they’ve found a second home.
The attention to detail behind the bar is nothing short of obsessive. These aren't just "drinks"; they are precision-built cocktails. For us, the Old Fashioned is the gold standard here. It is absolute perfection—perfectly balanced, impeccably chilled, and served with a level of care that shows Arnaud’s respect for the classics. It’s the kind of drink that makes you slow down and actually appreciate the craft.
The tavern is housed in the Captain John P. Nichols House, a stunning Italianate mansion built in 1865. Nichols was one of Searsport’s most successful ship captains, and the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The vibe is pure "English Pub," featuring ornate wood, fireside lounging, and a cozy intimacy. This atmosphere comes alive during their live music nights. The tavern transforms into one of the most vibrant listening rooms in the Midcoast, where local talent and soulful tunes fill the historic halls, making the heavy timber and high ceilings resonate with modern energy.
