Midcoast Insomniacs Rejoice: Breakfast at Café Grazie
As "munchies"—and arguably some of the worst sleepers in Midcoast Maine—being wide awake in the pre-dawn hours eventually leads to one thing: a serious craving for breakfast. Fortunately, Rockland’s newest gem, Café Grazie, is making the early bird life a lot more delicious.
The Backstory
Café Grazie is the brick-and-mortar evolution of Double Grazie, a beloved bakery project that started in 2021. After building a loyal following at local farmers' markets, the team transformed the former Wiggins’ Meat Market into this stunning daytime café and market. It’s a space that honors its roots while bringing a fresh, creative energy to the south end of town.
The Vibe
The interior is a masterclass in design—think Maine hipster café meets high-end rustic craftsmanship. We settled into the space, which features incredible custom woodwork on the stools and tables.
The atmosphere is "chill personified." During our visit, the playlist was spot-on, and the crowd was a mix of younger locals enjoying an extended breakfast and young parents with impressively well-behaved kids (shoutout to those parents—nicely done).
The Food: Sweet, Savory, and Simple
While their menu is packed with unique options like breakfast burritos and foccacia sandwiches, we were craving the classics.
Here’s how they held up:
Blueberry Pancakes: We watched them pour massive amounts of batter onto the flattop, and the result was perfection. They were large and perfectly browned without being crusty. Most importantly, they didn't skimp on the fruit—there were enough blueberries to fill every single forkful. I will definitely be back for these.
Thick-Cut Smoked Bacon: Right on the money. It was thick, meaty, and packed with smoky flavor. It’s an essential side for any order.
The Coffee: A delicious, velvety cappuccino that provided the perfect caffeine kick for a pair of tired travelers.
The Essentials:
Hornitos: No, but wine for sale
Booths: No
Location: 148 South Main Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
Hours: Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. (Closed Monday and Tuesday).
Between the impeccable woodwork, the great tunes, and those pancakes, we’ll definitely be back. If you’re in the area, we hope you give them a try as well.
