Oak Room - Rockport, ME

The Munchies Take Over Rockport Harbor

If you heard a sudden roar of laughter echoing across the water in mid-coast Maine recently, it was probably us. The Munchies Crew decided to descend upon the Rockport Harbor Hotel, and hey, sometimes these kids can get a case of the giggles.. Adult giggles.. Ok, maybe cackles?

Anyways, this isn't just a boutique hotel with a "gorgeous" label—it’s a high-end sanctuary that somehow survived our arrival. Nestled in a town famous for Andre the Seal (the legendary seal who swam from Boston to Rockport every year), we felt right at home. We didn't swim from Boston, but we certainly arrived with the same level of hunger.

The Raid on Oak Room

We marched into Oak Room on the first floor and somehow scored the perfect table by the giant window, overlooking Rockport Harbor. The restaurant is named after its centerpiece: a massive, intricately carved oak bar dating back to the late 1800s. It anchors the room with a sense of history that pairs perfectly with the modern, open kitchen. The atmosphere is relaxed, the music is low, and the lighting is "Instagram-filter-in-real-life" good.

Cocktails & Chaos

Our bartender, Chris, is a saint. We put him through the absolute ringer, lining up more Espresso Martinis than he’d probably seen in a single order all year. He didn’t blink. He was fast, fun, and honestly felt like part of the crew by the end of the night. The cocktail menu is a clever spin on the classics—exactly what you need to kick off a "relaxed" night that is rapidly becoming un-relaxed.

The Feast

The kitchen kept pace with our energy, sending out a spread that had us clapping, “Hercules! Hercules!”

The Charcuterie Board: This thing is massive. It’s made fresh, so we had to behave for a few minutes while they prepped it, but the wait was worth it for that meat-and-cheese mountain.

BBQ Lime Wings: MUST. ORDER. They brine these for 24 hours. They’re crispy, zesty, and disappeared faster than our dignity after we realized they were gone in 30 seconds.

The "Weaponized" Burgers: When these come out, the vibe shifts. They serve them on wood boards with a massive steak knife plunged into the center. It’s aggressive, it’s fun, and the mini fries baskets are the perfect sidekick. The burger will definitely be a repeat order. Delish.

The Fish & Chips: One of our Munchies crew is a total tartar sauce snob. He didn't even touch the sauce. The fish was so stellar it stood on its own—which is the highest praise a Munchie can give.

The Vibe

The Oak Room is sandwiched between Nina June and 18 Central, which is like being the middle child of two superstars—but The Oak Room is definitely the "fun" sibling. With the open kitchen, you get to see the culinary theater happening in real-time. The lighting is low and moody, but our table was anything but quiet.

The Verdict: Whether you're settling in for a chill dinner or turning a "quick drink" into a legendary night of martinis and steak-knife-burgers, this is the spot.

Warning: If you see the Munchies crew at the window table... maybe order your Espresso Martini BEFORE we do.

Quick Stats

Hornitos: That’s a no.

The View: Unbeatable (especially when the balcony opens!).

Location: 20 Central St, Rockport, ME.

Hours: Generally serving breakfast and dinner, but check their local listings as they often update seasonally to prepare for the summer rush!

Which part of that feast sounds like it would be the "main event" for your group—the 24-hour brined wings or the "stabbed" burgers?
