Rollies Bar and Grill - Belfast, Maine

A “Cheers” style local atmosphere... Where everybody knows your name.

On the way back from a youth bball game way the heck in Hampden, we stopped for a well-deserved bite in Belfast. Rollie’s is the kind of local spot that immediately makes you feel welcome. In business since 1972, the atmosphere has that perfect small-town Maine charm—sports on the TVs, locals chatting at the bar, and the kind of energy that tells you this place has been a community favorite for years.

We had a great experience thanks to our bartender, Hannah, who was incredibly attentive the entire time. She checked in often, offered helpful suggestions from the menu, and made sure our drinks were always full. Speaking of drinks—Rollie’s keeps things refreshingly affordable, from cheap cocktails to ice-cold beers, you definitely get value here, including Happy Hour drink specials Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. Happy hour is our JAM!

The menu is surprisingly large, with something for everyone. One of the highlights is their personal-sized pizzas, perfect for kids to split or for an adult to enjoy as a filling meal—and still have a slice or two to take home. The buffalo chicken pizza is a crowd favorite and my son’s go-to! Another standout is the turkey gobbler wrap, a comfort-food twist that hits all the right notes. The discounted food and drink specials are a huge bonus and make it easy to go out without breaking the bank- Think $1 wings, taco night, burger night, etc.

Fun facts: Rollie's was selected as a setting for Stephen King's movie "Thinner." The vintage bar that most admire is originally from an 1800's sailing ship, lovingly moved onto land and preserved. And just in case you're wondering, those sometimes-uncomfortable booth benches are from the original 1950's decor when the location was first established as a local bar and eatery. The proprietor has been warned as to the impact of removing those vintage benches, to which he responds: "Some things are just better left as is."

Overall, Rollie’s hits the sweet spot for decent food, cheap drinks, and friendly service. If you’re in Belfast and looking for a laid-back place with a local, no-frills feel, Rollie’s is absolutely worth a stop.
